Core Mechanics

Sub-systems that dictate action priority

The Bard has no static 1-2-3 combo. Its gameplay is governed by independent, concurrently running timers, gauges and probability checks — and the opener exists to align all of them before the reactive phase begins.

REPERTOIRE

Songs & the tick

Three songs cycle on 120s cooldowns with 45s durations: The Wanderer's Minuet, Mage's Ballad, Army's Paeon. Each grants a party buff and rolls the Repertoire mechanic — an 80% chance every 3 seconds, synchronised to the server combat tick.

  • Minuet's proc grants Pitch Perfect stacks, up to 360 potency.
  • Ballad reduces Heartbreak Shot / Rain of Death cooldown by 7.5s.
  • Paeon grants 4% haste per stack, to 16%.

In Dawntrail, songs need no target — but are combat-only.

SNAPSHOT

DoTs & Iron Jaws

A large share of sustained damage is the two poisons: Stormbite and Caustic Bite. Applying them is the first priority in the GCD sequence.

DoTs snapshot: their damage-per-tick is locked to the buffs active at the exact moment of application. The opener applies unbuffed poisons early, then refreshes both with Iron Jaws at the last second of the buff window — carrying fully multiplied ticks forward for 45 seconds.

CODA

Radiant Finale

Singing a song grants a Coda. Radiant Finale consumes them for a party damage buff that scales with unique Coda: 2% / 4% / 6% — and readies Radiant Encore, up to 1,100 potency.

In the opener you hold a single Coda, so Finale gives only 2%. You cast it anyway. Delaying for three Coda shoves it clean out of the party's 120-second window — a catastrophic raid loss. The 2% is a calculated sacrifice for the 6% at every later even minute.

One song · 45s · 15 ticks · 80% each

The tick lands on the song's own timer — at 42s, 39s, 36s remaining, and so on. Fifteen rolls per song, each with an 80% chance to fire. That is why the opener starts Minuet on the very first GCD: the earlier the song is running, the more Pitch Perfect stacks you bank inside the opening burst.

Mechanistic consequence

A proc that fires is damage you already own. A proc you never rolled is damage that never existed — so song uptime is not a nice-to-have, it is the substrate the entire job grows from.

02

The Standard Opener

25 seconds · eleven GCDs · one window

Designed to fix long-term alignment while packing maximum potency into the opening 20-second raid window. Agnostic to minor Skill Speed variation and recommended for progression, variable latency, and unknown fight timings.

Consumable
High-Quality Grade 3 Gemdraught of Dexterity, woven after a filler GCD before Raging Strikes. On fights guaranteed to run past 8m30s, hold it instead for the 2- and 8-minute bursts — where you hold three Coda and multiply the potion against a 6% Finale rather than a 2% one.
0.0s · GCD 1StormbiteWeave — The Wanderer's Minuet · exactly at 0.0s to start the 45s timer and align the tick cycle

The GCD must trigger on the pull. Minuet goes up immediately so the maximum number of Pitch Perfect procs can be generated and spent inside the opening burst.

GCD 2Caustic BiteWeave — Empyreal Arrow + Battle Voice

Second poison applied. Empyreal Arrow is placed early to keep its strict 15-second cooldown perfectly aligned, and Battle Voice opens the buff window.

GCD 3Burst Shot · or Refulgent ArrowWeave — Radiant Finale + Raging Strikes

Final setup GCD. Radiant Finale deployed at one Coda (2%), immediately followed by Raging Strikes. Everything after this is under maximum personal and party multipliers.

GCD 4Burst Shot · or Refulgent ArrowWeave — Potion (if used) + Heartbreak Shot

Heartbreak Shot goes here so its charges never overcap; the potion rides the same window if you are opening with it.

GCD 5Burst Shot · or Refulgent ArrowWeave — Barrage + Sidewinder

Barrage guarantees a triple-hitting Refulgent Arrow on the next GCD and readies Resonant Arrow. Sidewinder's 300 potency lands in the heavy multiplier window.

GCD 6Refulgent ArrowWeave — Pitch Perfect as it reaches 3 stacks

Deployment of the guaranteed high-potency Refulgent.

GCD 7Radiant EncoreWeave — Heartbreak Shot

Unlocked by the earlier Radiant Finale. Even at one Coda (700 potency) it is a massive contribution and must land under Raging Strikes.

GCD 8Resonant ArrowWeave — Empyreal Arrow

Unlocked by Barrage. Empyreal Arrow comes naturally off its 15-second cooldown exactly here — the alignment the early placement bought you.

GCD 9Apex ArrowWeave — Pitch Perfect / Bloodletter

Fired once the Soul Voice gauge reaches a sufficient threshold — ideally 80–100, generated by the early Repertoire procs.

GCD 10Blast ArrowWeave — Pitch Perfect

700-potency line attack unlocked by Apex Arrow, highly prioritised before the buffs expire.

GCD 11Iron JawsWeave — Empyreal Arrow + Heartbreak Shot

The critical snapshot. Both poisons are refreshed with less than a second remaining on Raging Strikes, capturing every multiplier for the next 45 seconds. Empyreal Arrow lands here for the second time inside the window.

Execution nuances

01

Proc collision

If a natural Hawk's Eye proc fires just before your scheduled Barrage, spend the natural Refulgent Arrow first, delay Barrage by one GCD, then Barrage the following GCD. Overwriting a proc is a mathematical failure.

02

Pitch Perfect discipline

Weave it dynamically whenever it reaches three stacks, and never exceed the two-oGCD weave limit between GCDs.

03

Defensive mapping

When the fight demands early mitigation, give up a Heartbreak Shot in GCD 3 or 4 to weave Troubadour (15% party mitigation) or Nature's Minne (15% healing). Preventing a wipe outranks a personal potency dip.

04

Why the shape works

Pairing Empyreal Arrow with Battle Voice early builds a 15-second loop that intersects the end of Raging Strikes — guaranteeing two Empyreal Arrows inside the first window with no drift. Burst Shot filler buys the server time to charge Soul Voice for Apex Arrow by GCD 9.

03

Song Cycle

120 seconds, three arcs, one alignment

A typical cycle lasts 120 seconds — matching the raid buff cadence. The standard order runs Minuet, then Ballad, then Paeon, and the swap points are the whole game.

Wanderer's Minuet
≈ 43s
Mage's Ballad
≈ 34s
Army's Paeon
≈ 43s
Minuet ends with 3s leftBallad ends with 3s leftPaeon ends with 12s left

Standard cycle

  1. The Wanderer's Minuet — 43 seconds. Opens the fight; Pitch Perfect is your spend.
  2. Mage's Ballad — 34 seconds. Swap when 3 seconds remain, or after 11 ticks. Repertoire resets Heartbreak Shot.
  3. Army's Paeon — 43 seconds. Swap into Minuet when the timer hits 12, or when the two-minute burst is ready.

Reading the swap

The swap points are not arbitrary. Ending Minuet and Ballad with 3 seconds left, and Paeon with 12, lands the transition exactly where the two-minute burst needs the GCD wheel to be free. In the maintenance phase, when Paeon drops below 30 seconds, stop spending Heartbreak Shot entirely — bank up to three charges and dump them the instant Raging Strikes returns.

Apex Arrow should be fired roughly halfway through Ballad so the gauge never overcaps at 100 before the burst.

04

The 3-6-9 Question

Two rotations · one Skill Speed gate

Dawntrail stretched party buffs to 20 seconds, which rewards squeezing a second Empyreal Arrow into every window. That fork produced two rotations — and only one of them is right for most people.

Standard 3-3-12

The resilient default
Best for
Progression, learning, variable latency, and any fight where you cannot guarantee uptime.
GCD
2.48s – 2.50s
Swaps
Out of Ballad at 3s left, out of Paeon at 12s left, Minuet runs to the end.
Why
Absorbs Empyreal Arrow drift inside the Paeon window instead of letting it cascade.
Recommended for the vast majority

Advanced 3-6-9

The fragile maximum
Best for
High-end parsing and choreographed fights where the boss is a stationary dummy for long stretches.
GCD
Strictly 2.48s – 2.49s
Swaps
Song swaps land on the 3rd, 6th and 9th ticks rather than raw seconds.
Why
Forces the GCD sequence back into alignment with the 120s cooldown, so exactly two Empyreal Arrows fit under every Raging Strikes for the whole encounter.
Cutting-edge only · shatters on a single dropped GCD

Dawntrail Level 100 upgrades

Radiant Encore
The capstone. Executed after Radiant Finale, consuming your Coda — up to 1,100 potency on the primary target. It replaces a filler Burst Shot inside the two-minute burst.
AoE Pitch Perfect
Now deals area damage with 55% falloff. You no longer reroute your songs for dungeon pulls — Minuet stays first, and its procs cleave.
Song targeting removed
Songs no longer need a target, only combat. This removes pre-pull targeting errors.
Barrage consolidated
Barrage grants its own buff that only Refulgent Arrow and Shadowbite can consume — you can no longer accidentally burn it on Iron Jaws.

Play the standard rotation until the fight is a habit. The 3-6-9 is not better — it is tighter, and tightness is only worth anything when nothing interrupts it.

05

Priority Ladders

What to press, in what order, under every song

The Bard does not follow a combo — it follows a queue. These two ladders are the whole decision structure once the opener is spent.

Single target · GCD priority

  1. Apply Stormbite & Caustic Bite — if not up.
  2. Iron Jaws — refresh poisons at under 3 seconds.
  3. Radiant Encore — during buffs.
  4. Resonant Arrow — during buffs.
  5. Apex Arrow at 80–100 gauge → Blast Arrow, inside the two-minute window.
  6. Refulgent Arrow — Barrage-buffed.
  7. Refulgent Arrow — from a standard Hawk's Eye proc.
  8. Burst Shot — filler.

Wanderer's Minuet · oGCDs

  1. Pitch Perfect — at three stacks, always.
  2. Pitch Perfect — at two stacks, if a song tick coincides with Empyreal Arrow.
  3. Empyreal Arrow — on cooldown, never drifting.
  4. Bloodletter / Heartbreak Shot — off cooldown, never at three charges.

Every two minutes, Raging Strikes and Battle Voice must land together, with your biggest spender — Barrage, the poisons, Iron Jaws, Resonant Arrow, Sidewinder, Apex and Blast Arrow, plus banked Heartbreak Shots — all inside that window. Be in Minuet.

06

Wide Volley

Two targets and up

Against two or more enemies the spenders swap and the gauge priority inverts — but the oGCDs stay exactly where they were.

01

The swap

Burst Shot becomes Ladonsbite, Refulgent Arrow becomes Shadowbite, and Rain of Death replaces Heartbreak Shot in the oGCD weave.

02

Gauge inverts

On single target Apex and Blast Arrow are held for the burst. In AoE they are fired at 80+ the moment they are ready — the geometric scaling outweighs the 15% multiplier.

03

Keep the song

Because Pitch Perfect now cleaves, Minuet remains first. Keep poisons ticking on a priority target and put single-target oGCDs on the highest-HP enemy — they are free damage.

07

Synced Down & Field Notes

Roulette floors and hard-won habits
Level 50

No Empyreal Arrow and no Iron Jaws. Poisons revert to Windbite and Venomous Bite and must be reapplied by hand, and Barrage is spent on a plain Heavy Shot or Straight Shot — Refulgent Arrow does not exist yet.

Level 70

Iron Jaws returns and Empyreal Arrow must be strictly aligned with the Minuet timer. Apex Arrow is still unavailable, so the Soul Voice gauge has nowhere to go.

01

Always be casting

Zero cast times. There is no excuse for standing still through a mechanic — you move and shoot at the same time.

02

Never let a poison drop

Losing both means two GCDs to reapply. Refresh with Iron Jaws whenever roughly three seconds remain.

03

Snapshot before the window closes

Iron Jaws must fire in the final moments of Raging Strikes and the party buffs — that is the entire point of its placement in the opener.

04

Never overcap

Pitch Perfect at three stacks, Heartbreak Shot below three charges, and the Soul Voice gauge never sat at 100 while Apex Arrow is available.

05

Align the two minutes

Raging Strikes, Battle Voice and Radiant Finale land together. Pool the gauge and the Heartbreak charges in the seconds before.

06

Pool the shot

When Paeon falls below 30 seconds, stop spending Heartbreak Shot. Bank three charges and release them on cooldown with Raging Strikes.
